There are a few really excellent stories in this book. The first story, Rapunzel by Tanith Lee, was wonderful and I liked it very much. Susanna Clarke's Mr. Simonelli or the Fairy Widower, which was the final was very interesting and different. I think, though, that my favorite is The Cats of San Martino by Ellen Stieber. Absolutely loved the cats and Jenny and the end was positively perfect. Most of the other stories were okay but not much I'd spend time reading again but those three were definitely worth it

...that this is the last compilation of rewritten fairy tales from Datlow and Windling. I have every book in this series and I've re-read them OFTEN. Stories range from the fantastic ("The Cats of San Martino")to the ordinary ("You, Little-Match Girl") with wonderful and enchanting results. Definitely check out Neil Gaiman's "Boys and Girls Together" as well as Tanith Lee's "Rapunzel." Do yourself a favor and pick up this one and, if you dont already have them, the other four in the series.
good addition to this anthology series.....I like all these authors
An excellent collection that rings changes on traditional fairy tales written by a diverse group of genre and non-genre authors.
Good stories! Fun new authors to read
This is a collection of short stories based on fairy tales. There are four other books in this series. They are all worth reading if you love fairy tales.
This was suggested to me by the internet upon finishing American Gods, I would not say that they are sufficiently similar. However it is a collection of reimagined fairy tales and I enjoyed the treck through familiar and unfamiliar tales a like lead by different authors.
The book is good, I'd recommend it but it isn't a "must read" though if you enough fairy tales it would be foolish not to give it a try.
Note I have not read the first five collections.
Last book in an excellent series. Forget about disney schlock, these "fairy tales" are a wonderful relief from that. New takes on old standards, always with surprising twists, done with humor, terror, a sly wink & never dull. Get them all!
