Thread Slivers Golden Threads Trilogy Book 1 eBook Leeland Artra

I've read more Fantasy genre books than I can count. And I love "experimenting" with Indie writers. There's so much creativity out there! This book is worth reading though there is still room for improvement. It did remind me of a D&D type story in many ways, which isn't a bad thing. The world Mr. Artra has created is very complex and quite original. However I did think that was one of the shortcomings of the book. There wasn't enough back story for the world building. There were too many times when I wasn't quite sure who was on which side, how many sides there were and exactly who was fighting for what. By the time I finished the book I had figured out most of it but there are still areas in which I just couldn't quite grasp what was going on. Some of the scene switches were confusing when it came to the timing. Did this new scene happen before the previous scene, after it? It often took a few pages to figure out "when" I was. I also found the character development to be rather weak. The words spoke about emotions (fear, love, horror etc) but I just didn't feel them. So the characters didn't become real to me. That being said, it really was a good story and I'd like to read the rest of the series eventually. I think this author has a great deal of potential and I look forward to seeing that potential develop.

Thread Slivers Golden Threads Trilogy Book 1 eBook Leeland Artra Reviews

This book has a lot going for it. It's extremely original, it has great character building, great world building, and a nicely unpredictable plot pacing. This reminded me a lot of Ryria Chronicles in terms of pacing and character building. There are just so many interesting ideas here, it's difficult to compare it to most other books in the genre.

There's really only ONE downside. Combat. Every fight inevitably turns into a knife fight. There are no sword fights and there are no spear fights and there are no bows and arrows anywhere. The utter lack of arrows is probably the most confusing element of the entire book and the only reason I have to give this a 4 star rating instead of 5. The biggest and most dangerous battles would have been completely different if the good guys simply utilized their overwhelming numbers to pincushion the enemy with arrows rather than having every fight devolve into hand-to-hand knife fighting.
The writing in this book was clear and concise, the plot well developed, and the characters (Duke and Ticca in particular) were nicely fleshed out with likeable personalities. I have to admit I was incredibly confused during certain portions of the story where characters had discussions involving ...time. I must also confess that I am writing this review after reading the second book, which cleared up any confusion I had over those scenes, but my dislike of those portions and my initial dislike of Lebuin were fierce enough that, even after reading the second book, I had to deduct a star. The second book was an improvement from book one though, so if you are after a clever plot, a few characters to add to your favorites shelf, and an adventure I would recommend this series for you. 4 out of 5 stars.
Wow! Words fail me. Hurricane Irma came over and I discovered I was Hooked on this book. In her aftermath, with no lights, bad/no water, spoiled food, clean up pending, I still could not put this book down for long. Read it and enjoy a good story--even with a hated cliffhanger.
I knew it was a cliff-hanger going in,which I try to keep alway from but good reads are hard to come by for an avid reader like myself. I got spoiled by Weber's Honorverse and look mainly for a female lead character and Mr. Artra has delivered a good one.
The story flowed nicely and the characters are exciting(Duke is a gasser)and express emotions usually not found in lot of works. A few dry spots in the beginning while the author sets up his universe, but over-all it's a tough book to put down.
This isn't the only series I'am waiting on sequals(Weber,Deprima,Hicks,Daems, to name a few), but such is life.
Where are you gonna find characters out of Tolkien, Grimm's fairy tales, jungles of Viet Nam, Seal team 6, ancient Japan, Sullivan/Sanderson, mixxed into a pot, blended, stirred and left to battle it out? Many of the answers can be hinted at in the author's lexicon, but like all men "I don't need no stinking road map" so I just jumped right in. WOW. After I got acclimated and read a couple paragraphs twice I saw what was afoot. Great heavens...a cage match that makes all the martial arts movies, the David Belle stunts and Jet Li fighting look like child's play. If Luc Besson doesn't snap this up and get his gang of 10 making a movie out of this by next year I miss my guess. The only downer is it is a cliffhanger. Good news is #2 is out but 3 is not. So, hold on tight, let Bruce Willis take the wheel and hang on for an adventure unlike anything in the last decade....shu
I'm totally enjoying this series! Book 1 is fantasy, has good character development (without all characters sounding like carbon copies of each other), a good plot, good writing. Definitely engages the reader's interest, and keeps it throughout the book. There are quite a few typos, but you can tell they're typos that couldn't be picked up by a spell-checker, so they didn't bother me overmuch. Also quite a few missing words sprinkled around, but again, not so many that they're distracting. A little more careful eyes-on editing would be a good idea.

Warning! Book 2 does a rather abrupt switch in genres to science fiction. Since I happen to enjoy both genres, it didn't stop me in my tracks. If you're a purist in the fantasy department, do keep reading when this happens. You'll be glad you did. The author does a creditable job of blending the two, without losing the fantasy elements. Not easy! Congrats, author!
I had never heard of this author, but the story looked interesting, and there was a deal where I coukd get this book for free, so it seemed worth a try. I'm so glad that I got it! The story was rich and compelling. I couldn't put the book down! I got so excited that my husband now knows most of the plot too, since I can't stop talking about it. I've already downloaded the second book, which was only 99 cents!
